FAA Flight Physicals

Our medical clinic is dedicated to keeping pilots healthy and flying safely. FAA (Federal Aviation Association) flight physical exams are a requirement for pilots in order to meet the minimum safety standards to fly a plane.

Dr. Armitage has 10+ years of experience as an Air Force Flight Surgeon with five overseas deployments. He also has 6+ years of experience as an FAA Aeromedical Examiner. Currently, Dr. Armitage serves as the Squadron Medical Element Flight Surgeon in the F15 Eagle with the 123rd Fighter Squadron, 142nd Fighter Wing, and the Portland Air National Guard Base in Portland, Oregon.

At our Creswell medical clinic, we provide three different types of MedExpress FAA physicals and a BasicMed FAA physical:

  • Class 1 FAA physicals: Required for commercial pilots
  • Class 2 FAA physicals: Required for freight, commercial, and private pilots.
  • Class 3 FAA physicals: Required for private, non-commercial pilots.
  • BasicMed physicals: Required for non-commercial pilots (separate from MedExpress program).

FAA Flight Physicals

Our medical clinic is dedicated to keeping pilots healthy and flying safely. FAA (Federal Aviation Association) flight physical exams are a requirement for pilots in order to meet the minimum safety standards to fly a plane. Dr. Armitage has several years of experience in both the medical and aviation field, and is a certified FAA Physical Exam Doctor. He is a 142nd Wings Flight Surgeon and an active part of the Air National Guard.

At our Creswell medical clinic, we provide two different types of FAA physicals:

  • Class 2 FAA physicals: Required for non-airline, commercial pilots as well as private pilots.
  • Class 3 FAA physicals: Required for private, non-commercial pilots.

What Do I Need to Bring to My FAA Flight Physical?

For MedExpress Aviator Physicals: If you have been to the doctor for anything other than a routine checkup or if you have any medical conditions, please bring documentation with you to your appointment. Before your appointment, please register with the FAA’s MedXPress system and bring your confirmation number to your appointment.

For BasicMed Aviator Physicals: These exams are separate from MedExpress physicals. For a BasicMed Aviator Exam, please bring a valid U.S. driver’s license, FAA medical certificate (valid at any time after July 14th, 2006), most recent application for a medical certificate (that was not denied), most recent medical certificate (that was not revoked, suspended or withdrawn), one time authorization for Special Issuance of a Medical Certificate for certain conditions, and the CMEC FAA Form 8700-2.

 

What Does an FAA Flight Physical Include?

An FAA flight physical exam usually takes around 45 minutes and include the following tests:

Overall Physical Exam

Once you pass your FAA flight physical, you will be issued a medical certificate. Class 2 medical certificates are valid for one year, while Class 3 certificates are valid for 2 to 5 years, depending on your age.
